Dead Ringers

Looking at the 'Weird Al' stuff earlier I came across a parody version of James Blunts' 'You're Beautiful' (his version is 'You're Pitiful') and it reminded me of a Dead Ringers version ('It's Bloody Cold') which I thought was fantastic so I decided to put it up on here. I have also put up a couple of other dead ringers videos which I was very amused by :).

"Weird Al" Yankovic

Well, I was reminded the other day of the song 'White and Nerdy' which I remember being very amused about when I was younger. So I looked up the song and ended up browsing some of the other songs by the artist ('Weird Al' Yankovic). I decided that I should put a couple of my favourites up on here to share the entertainment, lol. Oh... just discovered that the ones I wanted to put up have embedding disabled...
So I'll just link them instead - here's White and Nerdy (there's a version below but the one from the link is better quality) and here is Amish Paradise.

Films :)

I've been watching a whole lot of films over the last few days (whilst doing artwork). I've watched Julie and Julia, Star Trek, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, John Tucker Must Die and probably a couple of others that I can't remember.

I thought that Julie and Julia was excellent, the thing I loved the most was how real the characters seemed - particularly the main character Julie. She wasn't perfect and happy all the time, she had lots of setbacks and had some days where she just had a bit of breakdown and felt crap, sometimes a bit irrationally. I just thought it was really great.

John Tucker Must Die looked like quite an amusing film, and it was, however it wasn't amazing, it was a bit of a laugh and I quite liked watching it, though I kind of hoped for a more conclusive ending - though it wasn't a bad ending.

Star Trek and Percy Jackson were my favourites from the films I watched, they were both fantastic. I kept meaning to watch Star Trek since it came out but I finally actually got round to watching it. The characters were great, the storyline was great and there were lots of funny moments and I-love-this-person! moments (about several different characters). But anyway, this is a film that I would definitely watch again and quite possibly buy.

Percy Jackson was also a brilliant film, I loved the plot, the special effects were great and the script and characters were also fab. It was very fun, the only thing looking back at it that I would've liked to be slightly different is the character of Annabeth - I think there could have been a bit more depth there, though it was still quite good, and they may have purposely tried to make her slightly more mysterious by not giving much away, however there was just something missing I think. Though the actress was rather good and I loved all the fighting scenes with Annabeth. But yeah, definitely another one to consider buying.

I've been watching so many rom coms that I forgot how much I love action/sci fi/fantasy sort of films, I definitely should watch more of them! Fabulous :).

Valentino video

I came across this video from a link on Spotify and I think it's awesome :P. The song is great and the video is rather inventive and just generally fun :).

So here is the video and below is the behind the scenes video which is just as entertaining :P. If you want to see the split-screen version click here, though I think it is more effective to see the full screen versions.

Rhys Darby

He's amazing, isn't he? Gotta love Rhys Darby :P.
I've seen his live DVD ('Imagine That') and it's fantastic, so I thought 'd put a few of youtube videos from it up here :).

Nick Thune - Instant Messenger

I just came across this today and found it rather amusing so thought I'd share it with you...

The Only Exception

I've been a big fan of the song 'The Only Exception' by Paramore since I first heard it, but today I decided I really wanted to play it on the piano so was looking for the music. Managed to find a tutorial on YouTube which is fairly good, and I noted down the music from that, but decided that I'd actually prefer to play the chords if I'm singing it because it sounds better, so tracked down the chords and yeah... it's a really good song :).

Also, I saw the music video for it for the first time today and totally loved it, it's a really cool video and it also really made me understand the lyrics as I hadn't paid as much attention to them before...
So yes, here is the video - I love it, I hope you do too :).

Such Tweet Sorrow

Well, I don't know if you will have come across this before, but I discovered it yesterday - the new RSC twitter version of Romeo and Juliet. I heard about it on a radio programme I was listening to last night and decided to look it up. It's basically a modern Romeo and Juliet in Britain played out in real time via twitter by actors of the Royal Shakespeare Company. I've now read most of what's been going on and I find it rather fascinating. I think it's a fantastic way to get younger people involved, though perhaps is not the best in terms of getting good morals across (e.g. Friar Lawrence is a bit of a drug dealer, Romeo and Juliet had sex the first night they met etc.)
It's now about 3 weeks in, and I believe it lasts for 5 weeks, so I think I shall observe for the next 2 weeks with interest. It almost makes me want to get a twitter account so I can follow them, but really I can get around it, it's just a bit awkward. I was a bit annoyed with the website Such Tweet Sorrow, because I was attempting to read the timeline, but it's rather difficult, it seems to jump around timewise during a single day. However I've pretty much caught up now, so that'll do...

Some of it I really liked, such as how clear it is that Romeo and Juliet barely know each other and how quickly the whole Romeo-Juliet thing happened. This is clear in the original play by Shakespeare but some people seem to gloss over it sometimes and make out like Romeo and Juliet had this amazing deep and meaningful 'I-know-your-soul' kind of relationship, which may or may not have been the intended effect - but really it is more likely that they were deeply infatuated rather than deeply in love...
In this real time version, Romeo and Juliet met on the 23rd of April, and slept together and she didn't know his last name until several days later, however they were professing their love from that night/the next morning.
It kind of reminds me of Carol's comments about Atonement - the relationship between Robbie and Cecelia was pretty much based on a shag in the library once.
Either way, I think that this version of Romeo and Juliet is really interesting, and I think the fact that the audience can be involved in it is quite cool - though I'm not sure to what extent there has been banter between the audience and the characters as I don't have twitter account and don't understand it as well so I get slightly confused occasionally, lol.

So yes, I think it's definitely something to check out, for anyone who thinks it sounds interesting. I know it has been criticised a bit, and I think that there are quite a few valid points within that criticism, however I also think that it is an innovative way to explore further the world of acting, and the world of Shakespeare in the 21st century.

Other info about it can be found on this Mudlark page, where there are helpful links to various articles about it and on the BBC news link there is also a short video with actors who play Romeo and Juliet.
